The Electoral Contract of Steven Searle for US President

The Electoral Contract of Steven Searle
Candidate for US President in 2012

Founder of The Independent Contractors’ Party

Preamble:     I, Steven Searle, am the only candidate running for the office of US president in 2012 who is offering a binding contract in exchange for your vote. The following text, which concludes with my signature block, comprises this contract in its final form. This document has been under construction for the past two years and its supporting essays are available at http://ind4prez2012.blogspot.com .

As I had stated in the 2008 version of this contract, when running against Obama and McCain:

I will not be shy about claiming this to be an historic document, on a par with the Magna Carta and the U.S. Declaration of Independence. I hope my creation will serve as a model for future candidates (for national and local offices) who wish to follow my lead by offering themselves as alternatives to the Democratic and Republican parties which are ruining this country.

The following text consists of two parts – the terms of my contract followed by a list of non-contractual elements. These extra points are intended to convey a sense of the kind of President I would be.

ONE:     If I violate any of the terms of this contract, I will be removed from office by means of impeachment. I hereby affirm, in advance, that I will not defend myself nor authorize any other party to defend me against any impeachment activity in the House or trial by the Senate. I further agree to a speedy trial - within less than 10 minutes, if deemed necessary by the Senate.

TWO:     I will veto any bill presented to me by Congress which has any provision for increases in taxes or fees or for increased government borrowing.

THREE:     Starting with the first annual military budget presented for my signature, I will not sign if the dollar amount is greater than half of the amount authorized by President Obama for his last annual military budget. I will also not approve of any supplementary military appropriations.

FOUR:      Within 90 days of my inauguration, all U.S. military forces will be completely withdrawn from Iraq and Afghanistan, regardless of the "situation on the ground." This withdrawal also applies to any covert operatives currently in Iran.

FIVE:     Under no circumstances, during my presidency, will the United States militarily intervene in the affairs of any foreign nation without a declaration of war by Congress. In addition, all U.S. forces will be withdrawn from all foreign nations, except for the token numbers needed at our embassies. This will include total withdrawal from NATO and will also include advisors we station in foreign nations in support of terrorist suppression and training of local forces. Bottom line: All of these forces are to come home.

SIX:     I will veto every single bill from Congress that comes my way until it passes:
  • a Single Payer health care reform package, which will provide medical coverage to all US citizens free of charge - that is, without co-payments, deductibles, or any requirement to pay insurance premiums. This will also establish reasonable medical billing practices and rates.

  • a nationwide cap of 18% on personal credit card interest rates.

SEVEN:     Until the Senate permanently repudiates the filibuster and acknowledges its unconstitutionality, I will veto every bill passed by the Senate, even those not involving a filibuster. Concurrently, I will press this issue in Court by suing the U.S. Senate.

EIGHT:     I will veto any bill presented to me by Congress if it has any provision for any type of aid or loan to Israel or Egypt.

NINE:     I will ask the Palestinian government to invite US troops, under my personal command, to engage in joint peace games in the West Bank with their military forces. I will ask that the Palestinian forces participating in this exercise be completely unarmed. I will ask the same of participating US forces, but will only accept volunteers for this unique mission.

TEN:     I will immediately fire at least 10% of the top military officer corp.

ELEVEN:     If Iran announced to the world that it was going to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and declare its intention to build an atomic bomb, I would acknowledge its right to do so. I would attempt to visit that country and plead with their leaders not to pursue that course, but I would acknowledge its right to do so.

TWELVE:     As long as I am President, the U.S. will not take any military action against Iran, not even if the U.S. Congress declares war against that country for good reason. I would fully expect the Congress to remove me from office and find a Chief Executive willing to wage that war. [NOTE: This policy will not prevent US forces from defending themselves should they ever be attacked anywhere in the world.]

THIRTEEN:     I will not exercise the "right" of the President to grant/withhold diplomatic recognition to/from any country with four exceptions, which I'll invoke immediately upon becoming President.  After these four exceptions, I will consult with the Senate, seeking advice and consent on such issues:
  • Granting diplomatic recognition to Cuba and Palestine.

  • Withdrawing diplomatic recognition from Kosovo and Israel.

FOURTEEN:     My Supreme Court Nominations: I will demand the resignations of all nine justices of the U.S. Supreme Court, but will renominate them for five year terms under the conditions stated below. Failure of these justices to submit their resignations will be defined as a violation of “good behavior” and will therefore be grounds for impeachment.
I will not nominate any person to the Court who will not sign the following contract:
  • I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court for a period of five years, after which I will resign from that office. Failure to resign, I here and now freely stipulate, will constitute a violation of the "good behavior' rule mandated by Article III, section 1 of the Constitution. Such a violation would and should subject me to a well-deserved impeachment and removal from office.

FIFTEEN:     I will aggressively seek to completely replace our Constitution by means of establishing a Constitutional Convention, which will (hopefully) consider implementing a system I've created: Cross-Sectional Representation (CSR). One key provision of CSR is the replacement of our 435 Congressional Districts with 435 Cross-Sections.

SIXTEEN:     Within 90 days of my inauguration, I will order all US personnel out of all facilities located at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. This will allow Cuba to reoccupy that land, as is its sovereign right.

SEVENTEEN:     I will seek to lift the US embargo against Cuba, since those sanctions are a violation of international law.

EIGHTEEN:     Within 90 days of my inauguration, I will free all prisoners held in Guantanamo under two conditions (one optional, the other mandatory):

  • The optional condition: I will ask that each prisoner swear an oath of non-violence against the United States. However, since I don't believe in coercing an oath, I would still free those refusing to swear such an oath.

  • The mandatory condition: I will insist on meeting each prisoner in order to grasp his hand for at least 30 seconds.

NINETEEN:     There will be no military draft during my presidency. If Congress enacts a draft, however, I will encourage all draftees to be inducted. Immediately after induction, though, they will be subject to this blanket order: Do not follow any orders from any member of the military except this order from me, your Commander in Chief: "Carry on with your civilian lives as if you had never been drafted."

TWENTY:     If we should ever need a lot of new soldiers very quickly, I still would not violate my campaign promise against the draft. Instead, I would resign from office or encourage instantaneous impeachment by the Senate. That way, I would be keeping my campaign promise ("Read my lips: No draft") but allow for my successor to do what she thinks is right.

TWENTY-ONE:     I will use the Bully Pulpit to force radical changes in our federal tax laws. There are people serving time in federal prison for various tax-related offenses. Maybe releasing enough of these people from prison might make Congress nervous. Maybe if I granted a blanket pardon to everyone who refuses to pay taxes, that might actually terrify Congress into long overdue reform.

TWENTY-TWO:     While I’m President, the United States will never engage in torture.

TWENTY-THREE:
When Congress sends bills for my signature, I will simply sign them (if I support them) without making any signing statements.

TWENTY-FOUR:     I will abdicate my "right" to have US Attorneys serve "at the pleasure of the President" - with no such attorney to be dismissed without cause. Should I attempt a dismissal for cause, a right could be invoked to contest dismissal before a voluntary board consisting of eleven randomly-chosen legal professionals from the top eleven law schools in the United States. This board need not necessarily convene in person or hear such cases face-to-face.

TWENTY-FIVE:     I will not make any recess appointments.

TWENTY-SIX:     I will choose a female to be my vice president.

TWENTY-SEVEN:     During my first State of the Union address, I will declare that any Congress consisting of Democrats and Republicans is unrepresentative of the people, and therefore urge voters to replace their Congressmen with independents.

TWENTY-EIGHT:     I will make it a point not to make any of my State of the Union addresses before the assembled Congress itself. In good conscience, I could only speak directly either to We-the-People or to their genuine representatives.

TWENTY-NINE:
I will immediately release federal prisoner Jonathan Jay Pollard. He has been serving a life sentence since 1987 for the crime of spying on the United States on behalf of Israel.

THIRTY:
I will award to Mordechai Vanunu the Presidential Medal of Freedom, our nation's highest civilian award. I will also attempt to arrange for Mr. Vanunu's release from Israel and for the granting of asylum in a country of his choice.

THIRTY-ONE:     I will not run for re-election. Violation of this pledge is an impeachable offense for which I may be removed from office during my first (and only) term.

Miscellaneous Non-Contractual Points for
Your Consideration

1…I will be a Class Warfare President, conducting that war as a compassionate Buddhist.

2…My personal logo is a green, non-rotated swastika, meant to promote a greater appreciation of applied Buddhist practice.

3…My written Contract will keep us out of war. But my running mate won’t be similarly restrained.

4…I propose a reformed Congress that eliminates its unconstitutional seniority system and top-down management style which denies the effective input and equal participation of all (including the most junior) legislators.

5…I favor a Congress unfettered by a Committee system.

6…Let’s abandon the Imperial Presidency and return to the original intention of the Constitution – that Congress is to be considered pre-eminent.

7…Our judicial system should be accessible by even the most indigent citizen to challenge the interests of the wealthiest citizens on an equal footing.

8…The U.S. Constitution should be replaced, not merely amended. And this replacement should take effect when ratified by two-thirds of all eligible U.S. voters who cast ballots on this issue.

9…I am in favor of Supreme Court decisions being voidable by Congress (not subject to presidential veto) – by a two-thirds vote of a Dem/Pub Congress; by a simple majority of an independent Congress.

10…I propose this revision of the military oath for both officers and enlisted personnel:

“I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will, even at the cost of my life, support and defend the people of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; and that I will obey all appropriate and lawful orders issued by the President of the United States and of the officers appointed over me, according to all US laws and international treaty obligations.”

11…I favor juries being allowed to render verdicts by 9 to 3 margins.

12…It won’t matter who gets elected, since civilized life as we know it will cease to exist within 5 years.

13…I predict that Barack Obama will bomb Iranian nuclear facilities around Labor Day.

14…I will issue a personal call for a boycott of Israeli products by U.S. citizens.

15…Israel’s security is not a vital US interest.

16…I, unlike Mitt Romney, oppose line-item veto power for the president.

17…I oppose Barack Obama’s bipartisan plan to recolonize Africa.

18…Vote for independents for Congress; until that’s possible, vote against all incumbents.

19…States shouldn’t be allowed to compete against other states for business by offering tax incentives.

US President’s Weekly Yahoo News Updates

Once per week, I consolidate comments I’d posted to recent articles appearing on Yahoo News. I share my views, written as if I actually were the US President. [I’m working on that.] The following were posted between Dec. 11 and today, though appear below in no particular order. As is my usual custom, if I open with a quoted item, that’s from the article itself.

It took more than three days to re-enable the posting of readers’ comments to Yahoo News! articles. I still maintain, though, Yahoo’s censorship is intentional, and that posts like mine will be screened out or earmarked for limited-distribution only.

I hope you enjoy all 17 of these mini-essays/comments:

ONE:

So Gingrich won’t go negative, eh? What if Willard Romney were to challenge Newt by asking in his face: “Do you think it would be appropriate for your wife, Callista, to sign a marital fidelity pledge as you did, especially the part that says ‘[I pledge to have] respect for the marital bonds of others?’”

It doesn’t seem to take much to set Gingrich off, though this would be a good question for Willard (or for anyone) to ask. After all, Callista was “liaisoning” with Newt when he was still married to wife #2. Isn’t it important that the First Lady sign such a pledge…considering? Huh, huh, huh…isn’t it? Why aren't you answering, Newt? Come on, man. Inquiring minds want to know.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“When I found out Jon Huntsman wouldn’t sign anyone’s pledges, I had to give him a lot of points for that.”

TWO:

I wonder if a space ship could fly through the sun if it were sufficiently close to flying at the speed of light. The word “sufficiently” is the key, for of course the closer to that speed an object attains, the closer to attaining infinite mass. And that’s a definite barrier, since no single object could attain infinite mass (which is more mass than contained in this universe, though I wonder if we could somehow tap into the masses of other universes and if that would be "enough").

The mass of such a fast-moving ship would be so many times the mass of the sun as to make the latter’s negligible. But then there’s the matter of such a ship surviving the sun’s heat. Or would heat also have a negligible effect on such a massive spaceship? For what reason, one wonders?

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“Maybe whoever piloted the ‘Comet’ Lovejoy can answer such questions.”

THREE:

Gingrich should challenge Romney and Ron Paul to promise to support the GOP nominee, whomever he or she turns out to be.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“And make Romney swear to that upon the Book of Mormon. That ought to give him pause. As for Ron Paul? His hesitation will speaks volumes more than his voice ever did.”

FOUR:

[This is my response to BRI 3 D.]

The idea behind having a political party in the first place is that you don’t disagree so profoundly that you couldn’t unite behind your party’s standard bearer. But we already know Ron Paul is an opportunist. He was a Libertarian once and then he (as you put it) “sold out” to become a RINO once again.

Ron Paul deserves all the scorn that can be heaped upon one who sold out to the Two Party System hoping he could buck it someday to his own personal advantage. And that’s all that’s at stake here, isn’t it? For Ron Paul would get to smile on his death bed after having been elected President.

Too bad he didn’t do the work necessary to assure the election of an independent Congress (by himself remaining an independent while in Congress), which an independent president would need to advance his agenda. But after all gets said and done, it will be seen that Ron Paul didn’t care as much about getting anything done as he cared about being called “Mr. President.” Ron Paul makes me sick.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“Why don’t you Ron Paulonians ditch your Saviour Complex. I’m embarrassed for you.”

FIVE:

This is what Yahoo! posted: “We're having problems with Reading Activity and Commenting features on our site. We're working to re-enable them as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience.”

This is what Yahoo meant: “We’ve had to shut down this extremely popular feature for 3 days while we figure out how to more efficiently screen out undesirable posts without being so obvious about it. The candidates are starting to complain.”

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“It’s ironic how I blasted Yahoo for censorship on my personal blog on Sunday, and the very next day ‘We’re having problems…’ Go figure.”

SIX:

[This was posted before Yahoo finally “fixed” (after three days) whatever prevented readers from posting their comments to all of its news articles.]

It's good to see Yahoo is at least allowing readers to post comments to its sports articles. I guess that's safe enough.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
"But...if someone tries to slip in a political comment to its sports articles, Yahoo will probably shut down that venue as well."

SEVEN:

“The pipeline would carry millions of barrels of Alberta oilsands crude through six U.S. states to Gulf Coast refineries.”

What’s all this noise about “Gulf Coast refineries?” Why not build a refinery closer to those oilsands? Or, better yet, why doesn’t Canada decide to construct its own refinery and sell us the end-products? Surely the Canadians wouldn’t need so much pipeline over such a long distance to get the job done.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“Why haven’t we heard anything about these options?”

[Added note (not posted to Yahoo): I’m not the only Yahoo commenter who made this observation, though I’ll at least pretend to be surprised that this issue hasn’t made its way into the dialog between the Two Parties.]

EIGHT:

I agree. Jeb Bush would be the GOP's best shot at Obama, who tried his level best to be George III. Deeper into Afghanistan? Dubya would have approved. Foreign policywise, there's not much difference between Obama and Dubya.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
"And to those Democrats who are laughing at my suggestion, I ask, 'Is that nervous laughter I'm hearing?'"

NINE:

John S, I disagree. What Yahoo is doing is catering to whatever agenda pleases the Elite (liberal or conservative are really just buzz words) and assuring its own maximum profits.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
"The old divide between Liberal and Conservative is only superfically relevant. The real battlelines are drawn between the ultrarich (and their supporters who delude themselves into thinking they're part of the people who count), and everybody else."

TEN:

JeromeB,

You might be interested in the words of Greg Palast, concerning “the [Iraq] war was for oil:”

“Specifically, the system ordered up by the Bush cabal would keep a lid on Iraq's oil production -- limiting Iraq's oil pumping to the tight quota set by Saudi Arabia and the OPEC cartel. There you have it. Yes, Bush went in for the oil -- not to get more of Iraq's oil, but to prevent Iraq from producing too much of it."

The idea being, the less the supply, the more that can be charged for it.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“There is more than one way in which a war can be for oil.”

ELEVEN:

I saw the Sherlock Holmes movie yesterday and walked away with one depressing realization. The elegance of the dialog was way over the heads of too many in the audience. Maybe too many people are being dumbed-down by overexposure to the content on Yahoo News’ comments. Also, I was kind of hoping for a moment of frivolous indulgence, such as Dr. Watson responding with a “No shit, Sherlock!” Oh, please, please let that line be in the next installment.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“Though her role wasn’t very challenging, I was glad to see Noomi Rapace get this kind of major exposure.”

TWELVE:

“‘…when it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, typically it's a duck,’ Romney said.” That old truism has been heard by generations as they went through law school. However, I wonder if it’s been updated to take DNA testing into account. If so, then it wouldn’t matter what “it” walks like or quacks like. That aside, we don’t need DNA testing here, just a simple application of common  sense.

For instance, why doesn’t Knute Gettin’-Rich open his books in the name of transparency? Be specific and tell us exactly what kind of advice you gave Freddie Mac?  You say, “most of that money went to pay overhead?” Fine, open those books and show us. You don’t have anything against transparency, do you Knute?

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“You know what? I think Knute’s lying about only advising. Even if he didn’t covertly lobby, his name attached to Freddie Mac surely didn’t hurt their cause, now did it?”

[Post Script (not posted to Yahoo): To: Law School professors: Have you updated this “duck” talk to include the concept of the virtual duck? Just asking.]

THIRTEEN:

“He said he was inclined to hold teleconferences every few days…” Yes, but does that mean Knute actually holds such conferences every few days? There’s a world of difference between actually doing something and being “inclined” to do something.

"We don't have our advertising versus their advertising, but you get to ask me directly." Maybe so, but do you post all of those questions (and all of your responses) on your website? There’s a world of difference between (a select few by means of teleconferencing) getting to “ask me directly” and truly opening up the floodgates to allow anyone to ask questions (and then  posting all of your replies).

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“You’ve got to be careful with someone as slick as Knute Gettin’-Rich by keeping on firing question after question, each seeking refinements of his previous answers. Sooner or later, he won’t be able to outrun your questions and the truth with come out.”

FOURTEEN:

“The mission cost nearly 4,500 American … lives…” If Iraq adopts another strongman (like Saddam Hussein) or if Iraq aligns itself with Iran, we would have to go back in there with guns blazing. If not, then those 4,500 Americans would have died in vain.

You can see it now, can’t you? Ten years down the pike? If Iraq misbehaves, it would go without saying that our Congress would be right on top of the situation, giving President Rubio authority to re-invade. No, not merely “giving” that authority, but demanding that he take action, no matter what the cost. No doubt about any of this, right? Right!? Yoo hoo, anybody listening?

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“Goes without saying for we never leave anything half done, right? Right? Anybody out there?”

FIFTEEN:

Ron Paul is a fatally flawed candidate simply because, if elected, he won't have an independent Congress to work with. Even elements within his own party will try to cut him off at the knees.

The sad part? Ron Paul doesn't seem to have the slightest clue about this.

The sadder part? Neither do his supporters who think (as do too many) that simply electing One Great Man/Saviour can fix everything.

The saddest part? Ron Paul could have been working all these years as a Congressman trying to drum up support for independents in Congress by shedding his Pubber label.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“But, no. Instead we have Sheeple bleating, ‘Far out, man. Vote for Ron Paul and he’ll fix everything all by himself.’ What a bunch of cheeseheads!”

SIXTEEN:

Obama doesn’t deserve another term in office, since he’s proved he’s not a man of his word. So that means…what? We’re stuck with a Pubber for Prez? Even as a lifelong liberal (that is, an open-minded one) I say, “Why not?” I’m open-minded enough to know that the road to our ideals is sometimes paved with the bodies of our opponents – figuratively speaking, of course.

Obama was foisted on us as an agent of change by a media which didn’t ask him any hard questions during his meteoric rise. [You didn’t think that was an oversight, did you?] What better way to dig us deeper into Afghanistan than to have our liberal sweetheart do the digging? People will swallow all kinds of crap depending on who’s doing the dishing.

OK, fine, lesson learned. Next time? Stop being so predictable and vote against your conscience. Vote for the guy you'd hate to be our next prez. The only viable, grand strategy is to deny the incumbents their “social security.” If we can muster the will to vote against all incumbents – the good, the bad, and the ugly – we’ll badly frighten an establishment that counts on our predictability. How else do you think they market so successfully – everything from pet rocks to the cola you drink to the Leader of the Free World?

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“Vote for me and I’ll set you free – that is, once you get around to voting in an independent Congress that I won’t have to fight with for four years.”

SEVENTEEN:

[In response to Comet Lovejoy flying through the sun’s atmosphere and emerging intact.]

A good friend of mine said, "It's a spaceship, idiots!" Well...there has to be some reason why it survived solar grazing. What kind of technology could do that? You better believe the Pentagon is taking far more than a casual interest in this.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
"If there really are ET's out there, maybe they're just toying with us by putting on an occasional show."

US President’s Weekly Yahoo News Updates

Once per week, I consolidate comments I’d posted to recent articles appearing on Yahoo News. I share my views, written as if I actually were the US President. [I’m working on that.] The following were posted between Dec. 4 and today, though appear below in no particular order. As is my usual custom, if I open with a quoted item, that’s from the article itself.

I’ve noticed an uptick in Yahoo’s attempts to censor my posts. Each censored post below is marked: CENSORED by Yahoo. And those are only the posts I can confirm were censored. Why bother to censor a nobody like me? It’s not who I am but what I’m saying (and how often I’m saying it) that scares them. Yahoo, like any other corporate media, wishes to control the dialogue. There is an election at stake, you know. Since I’m able to post some of my stuff, it seems Yahoo employs a strategy of random censorship in order to discourage any particular poster from developing a following.

I hope you enjoy all 21 of these mini-essays/comments.

ONE:

If you’re referring to the “God particle,” I beat them to it already. I have an old Polaroid taped above my kitchen sink showing a Higgs Boson that looks exactly like an angry old white man in a flowing beard. I’ve had that pic for years.

[NOTE: I didn’t sign off with my usual “Steven Searle for US President in 2012.”]

TWO:

Knute Gettin’-Rich would soar in my estimation if he were to decline Cain’s endorsement. If I were Knute, I wouldn’t be pleasant in my rejection, saying, “How dare you have sullied the GOP with your ham-handedness and arrogance? You knew what you knew way in advance, which shows a total lack of mature judgment to have dragged the whole nation into your sordidness. Who on earth would want an endorsement from such a miserable dog?”

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“You might want to think about how easily the GOP candidates let Cain off the hook. As you well know, most of the Pubbers can be pretty scathing when they want to be.”

THREE: Censored by Yahoo

It doesn't much matter if the Palestinians were an invented people [as claimed by Newt Gingrich earlier this week]. They have forged a unity over these last decades that has transcended any concern regarding origin. And which has made them a force to be reckoned with.

Italy was once fragmented into very self-conscious and distinct fiefs. After unification, one of their leaders said (and I paraphrase), “We’ve succeeded in inventing Italy, now all we have to do is invent Italians.” And that’s what leaders do – even in the USA – they stoke the fires of nationalism. Even the Jews of Israel are a people undergoing an invention process, since there are very profound differences among those tribesmen. The diversity within modern Judaism is far more pronounced that that of the late 1800s. Check out the book Jew vs. Jew for a clue.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“The problem with Knute Gettin’-Rich is, he’s so steeped in history and self-righteousness, he’ll do anything to go down in history by trying to rewrite it his way.”

FOUR:  Censored by Yahoo

As for Romney's [$10,000 offer to Rick Perry of a] bet, it's his money. Why begrudge him that? And he was very quick to defend his position by putting his money where his mouth is. And take due note: Perry sure backed down quickly, didn't he?

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
"For the record: I am not jealous of Romney's money. However, I am interested in leveling the playing field, possibly at Romney's expense."

FIVE:  Censored by Yahoo

Oh, stop. Who are they trying to kid? Our guys (the good guys) already figured out how to mutate H5N1 well over a year ago (simply because we can). And so have the Chinese and Russians (simply because they can). And all three have already stockpiled a small supply (“just in case,” “you never know”).

This Dutch lab story is meant to be a lightning rod. When (I don’t mean “if,” I mean “when”) H5N1-H (“H” for human) is intentionally released, people will remember this story and think terrorists got ahold of the Dutch results.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“When push comes to shove, we can out-terrorist the terrorists. Problem is, we’re so thin-skinned sensitive, it doesn’t take much for push to come to shove.”

SIX:  Censored by Yahoo

“Does not look like the condition of an aircraft [a US drone] that lost control.” Maybe it didn’t lose control. Two possibilities I can think of: The Iranians overrode our control, or the CIA intentionally handed it over to the Iranians.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“Maybe CIA isn’t making enough by selling drugs these days.”

SEVEN:  Censored by Yahoo

“Ashley [who killed a police officer] appears to have acted alone and didn't know the slain officer: ‘At this time we have no connection between the two of them…’” Oh, Ashley knew that officer, alright; and there was a connection. Maybe not in this lifetime, though.

That’s the challenge karma presents to those who think there really are such things as random acts. Wrong! Everything happens for a reason. Just because we can’t see that reason doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. We Westerners believe in (worship) the bottom line but only the bottom line which accounts for factors we can readily identify (those within the closed box we insist holds all relevant phenomenon).

Those events which happen before and after this lifetime scare us since they’re “outside the box”), therefore we deny the impact these invisible “unaccountables” have on our daily lives. So, we call such flare-ups “random acts of violence.” Fine, whatever floats your boat. But consider at least the possibility: There’s more than meets the eye.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“The biggest failing of the American Revolution: it occurred before the Lotus Sutra was translated. Those who don’t understand that will always chalk one more up to ‘random acts of violence.’”

EIGHT:

McCain was low down in the polls, too, just like Gingrich was. And McCain went on to become the GOP’s standard bearer, just like Gingrich might. If so, then Gingrich will lose just as badly as McCain did.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“Oh well, at least Knute will be able to brag that he was a presidential candidate. That and a dollar will get you a dollar cup of coffee.”

Firm grip on the issues, eh? Knute is a guy who believes it would only take three low-yield nukes launched from a barge in the Gulf of Mexico to pump out enough EMP to immobilize the entire lower-48. He also says he’ll move our embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which will not improve our relations with the Zionist state one iota but will further deteriorate our standing in the rest of that part of the world.

“It's called loyalty. How do you do that? It's amazing to me." – That’s Trump criticizing Bachmann for not doing his debate. However, the very next sentence in the article goes on to say:  “Trump has said he might endorse a Republican but could make a third-party run himself.” And this jackal talks about loyalty?

ELEVEN:  Censored by Yahoo

Knute Gettin'-Rich (All American) could very well win the GOP nod over Romney, If so, Romney should run as an independent. And why not? If the GOP should turn him down a second time (this time, in favor of a faux Catholic blowhard), it would be obvious Romney has no future in the GOP. So why should he even pay lip service to their cause?

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
"If such a three-man race would develop, Obama shouldn't automatically win due to a split GOP vote. Gettin'-Rich should drop out, thus making it a two man race."

[Upon further reflection: I didn’t post the following sentence as part of ELEVEN, but I will add it here: “I wonder how much (and I don’t necessarily mean ‘how much money’) Romney could blackmail the GOP for to entice him not to run as a third partier.”]

This could be worse than it looks. Somehow, the Iranians were able to take control of this drone and land it safely in their country without a scratch. If they can do that, they might be able to take control of one of our manned jet bombers and land it in their country. Or, even worse, crash it into some of our ground forces. Then what?

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“Oh, well. Back to the drawing board. How about going to another drawing board – the one for peace in our lifetime?”

THIRTEEN:

“The 50-48 vote fell 10 votes short of the 60 needed.” So, once again, the great, big, pink elephant in the living room doesn’t get talked about – the unconstitutional filibuster. No one, from either party and certainly not the president, seeks to rid our nation of this blatantly illegal device.

Mr. President, if you were to accomplish nothing else in your 8 years of office (yeah, you’ll get 4 more), you’d go down in history as a great liberator should you initiate a lawsuit that rid us of this evil.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“And why doesn’t Ron Paul or the Tea Party squawk about this issue?”

So Romney has failed to meet with Iowans and answer their tough questions, eh? They can’t be very tough questioners if they can manage to overlook so much that’s wrong with Knute Gettin’-Rich (All American). However, that’s what campaigns are for: to remind the voters of a past they seem to have forgotten. I’m amazed that the good Christians of Iowa seem so enamored of the faux Catholic convert so shamelessly pandering to them.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“(sigh) If Knute becomes our next president, that will only show how stupid we’ve become.”

FIFTEEN:

I love how Knute Gettin’-Rich All American’s candidacy is shaping up in sharp contrast to my own. I offer a written contract to the voters with teeth (that is, an enforcement mechanism for non-performance). Knute’s contract will offer promises galore but, like his original Contract with America, will have no teeth. Knute is bending over backwards to kiss Israel’s butttt; if elected, I will void our diplomatic recognition of Israel and grant it, instead, to Palestine (recognizing part of – and only part of – Jerusalem as Palestine’s capital if that would be their wish).

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“Instead of Bolton as Secretary of State, I’d strongly consider asking Ron Paul.”

SIXTEEN:

Eric,

[Ron] Paul may have better relations in Congress than any of the other candidates, but that’s not really saying much. Rather than “better relations” (as you claim), what he really has is grudging respect. But that won’t be enough to convince a Congress, heavily influenced by lobbyists, to enact Paul’s agenda. Elite-friendly media will insure that Paul is isolated (branded as too radical), thereby insuring his ineffectiveness. Paul may be a nice guy, but that won’t get the job done.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“You really think Ron Paul will (1) get elected and (2) survive his scheduled assassination? And I don’t have a clue?”

SEVENTEEN:

What will the media do “when” Ron Paul wins? That’s easy. They’ll have a field day either covering his immediate assassination by the CIA (yes, I’m giving it away) or explaining, “The reason POTUS Paul can’t get anything done is Congress won’t cooperate.”

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“Ron Paul’s real political mission in life was to lead the way (via the Libertarian Party) for third party or independent legislators to get elected. Since he abdicated that mission, he as POTUS will reap what he didn’t sow.”

EIGHTEEN:

This is exactly why I quit my denomination – nothing sexual; simply a matter of doctrinal dispute. I am a Buddhist who is a member of a sect that has exactly one member (me) and no leaders – and, no, I’m not looking to grow my numbers. Each of us can be his own spiritual leader, so I have just one word of advice: NIKE (that is, “just do it”).

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“Even though a Buddhist, I ponder the truths of other faiths, such as why the Ninth Commandment doesn’t say ‘Thou Shalt not lie.’ Google: Steven Searle ninth commandment.”

NINETEEN:  Censored by Yahoo

[NOTE: This was an interesting bit of censorship by Yahoo. For they allowed this to be posted but did not allow others to comment on it. My take? I don’t think it was posted at all. I think Yahoo faked the 32 thumbs-up and 11 thumbs-down audience reaction, in effect quaranteening this post. Subject: 8-year-old kid vs. Michelle Bachmann.]

This whole article was an embarrassment. Starting with the headline – there was no “vs.” involved; this was an ambush by a pushy mom. “Versus” implies a sustained back-and-forth between two opponents; that didn’t happen. The kid wasn’t a “protester” – again, he was pushed by his mom into saying something he didn’t want to say. The candidate didn’t meet “her match” and she didn’t “bolt back up.” And Bachmann, in this encounter, didn’t face a challenge “to her stand on gay rights from the younger set.” If nothing, I thought Bachmann showed remarkable warmth and patience in trying to coax the kid to speak his piece, and graciousness in her reaction. How can so much untruth be packed into so few words? Simply astounding!

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“Yahoo should be sternly censored for allowing this bit of real-life pornography (and that’s the perfect word for this) to fly under its banner.”

TWENTY:

Knute Gettin’-Rich, All American, was a Speaker of the House and is a lifelong professional politician (aka LPP). Given how Americans of all political stripes despise Congress, how can Knute survive that rap?
Given how Knute converted to Catholicism only because his (third) wife is a lifelong Catholic, how can he deny being the worst of the worst of flip-floppers – adopting a new faith only as an expedient to assure (his own) domestic tranquility? [Please, people, there was no other reason – check it out.]

How can Knute deny he believes in “supermajority rule,” when his signature Contract with America promised to “require a three-fifths majority vote to pass a tax increase?” [Whatever happened to “majority rules?”]

How can Knute claim any savvy with defense-related issues when he endorsed the science behind a novel (One Second After) which claims all it would take to fry all the circuits in the country would be three low-level nukes launched from a barge in the Gulf of Mexico?

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“All Romney has to do in order to properly handle Knute is to use his step-by-step, methodical businessman’s approach to use Knute’s massive baggage against him – kind of like jiu jitsu. This will be a slam dunk.”

TWENTY-ONE:  Censored by Yahoo

Pookie responded to my post about the necessity of an independent congress, in which I refer to We-the-Sheeple, by writing:

“Honestly, I thought about it for a milli-second! Nothing has changed! – [posted by TJ’s Brother Pookie]”

Well, Pookie, if you’d thought about “it” for more than a millisecond, you might have come up with something like this: “Why don’t I google these words: Steven Searle US President 2012?” Since I’m a candidate for president, one might logically assume I’ve got a website. Or one might assume I’d posted position statements in support of my own campaign, which a google search would easily access.

The bottom line? The opportunities to realize the reforms which we all – liberal or conservative – know are vital won’t just fall into our laps. We have to roll up our sleeves are look for viable strategies and policies. However, if all you’re willing to invest is “a milli-second,” you’re approaching this crisis way too robotically. If you can’t rise above that, then you will reap the fate you so richly deserve.

Steven Searle for US President in 2012
“Yes, I’m a bit harsh in my wording, but the crisis we’re in can’t allow for politically correct niceties.”

[I’ll add this here, though not originally posted: “Yes, I’m a bit harsh in my wording (an “asshole,” some might say)…]
